An 18-year-old girl allegedly committed suicide in Bhagalpur on Wednesday a day after she was gang-raped, and a 35-year-old woman died in Patna after her rapist inserted an iron rod into her.

The Bhagalpur girl, a Class XII student, was kidnapped by two youths on Tuesday evening when she was returning home from college. The youths - Mritunjay Kumar and his friend Rahul Kumar, according to the FIR - took her to a house at Tilka Manjhi and raped her.

According to the FIR lodged by the victim's mother, the men dropped the girl off near her house in an unconscious state and fled. When she gained consciousness, she narrated her ordeal. Mritunjay is the girl's neighbour.

The girl's family first approached the panchayat and on Wednesday, her mother reported the incident to the Sabour police station.

The girl was found hanging in her house on Wednesday. The police recovered a suicide note from the room.

"She couldn't bear the trauma and took the extreme step," said a police officer posted at Sabour police station in Bhagalpur district, around 251km southeast of Patna.

In the other incident, the 35-year-old woman's neighbour allegedly kidnapped her and when she had gone to attend the call of nature on Wednesday night and tried to rape her.

The police said the accused, Deeraj Paswan, inserted an iron rod into the victim's private parts. She was rushed to a local primary health centre from where she was referred to PMCH, where she died during treatment. Naubatpur police station house officer Prem Raj Chauhan said the accused has been arrested.

In another incident, a teacher in a private school in Samastipur was arrested on Thursday on the charge of raping a class IX student.
