Patna, Jan. 25: Patna High Court today gave six weeks to the state government to come out with the final figure of vacancies of lecturers’ posts in the universities of the state.

A division bench comprising Justice Shiva Kirti Singh and Justice Ravi Ranjan posted the matter for hearing after six weeks when the state government’s counsel pointed out that the issue needed to be discussed with the governor in the wake of his rationalisation report.

The governor’s rationalisation report, which was sent to the state government on November 10 last year, mentioned 3,019 teaching vacancies in various universities of the state.

The court, during the hearing, observed that there cannot be two opinions that appointment of lecturers must be made at the earliest and hence, it was expected that the chancellor takes an early decision on the issue.

The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by Vinay Kumar Singh seeking filling up of vacancies of lecturers in the universities.

Compensation

Patna High Court today directed the labour and employment department to pay Rs 10 lakh in compensation to two candidates who were not awarded the industrial training institute (ITI) degree after the lapse of 12 years.
