Two among the three teenagers, who jumped into river Ganga on Monday near Jetali Ghat under the jurisdiction of river police station, have drowned.

Though a few fishermen rescued 12-year-old Manisha Kumari, 16-year-old Vishal Kumar and Poonam Kumari of the same age couldn't be saved. According to sources in the river police station, on Monday morning three teenagers reached Jetali Ghat from Nagar Nausa in Nalanda in a motorcycle.

Worldjeet Kumar, the station house officer of river police station, said: 'A few locals informed us that on Monday around 6.30am they saw three teenagers jumping into the river. Fishermen and boatmen who were on the banks when the incident occurred rescued a girl, but the other two went untraced.' In the afternoon State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) members fished out the body of Vishal Kumar, however, till late Monday evening the body of Poonam Kumari couldn't be traced.

Sources said the trio had come to Patna from Nalanda with a plan to commit suicide. Sources said prima facie it appears to be a case of an affair. However, their family members didn't reveal the reason behind the suicide attempt.

Panna Lal Rai, the father of Vishal Kumar, said: 'Vishal left the house around 5am stating that he is going out for some work. When he didn't return we got worried. In the afternoon we came to know that Vishal had jumped into the river.'

Worldjeet Kumar said: 'Manisha is not in a position to speak. Only she can say why she had accompanied Vishal and Poonam.'
