Munger: The district administration has launched a massive rescue operation after a two-year-old girl fell into a borewell on Tuesday evening.
There was hope as two-year-old Soni Kumari's cries could be heard at frequent intervals from the ground borewell, 50 feet below the surface in Murgiachak mohalla under Munger kotwali police staton area of the Munger district headquarters
A medical team led by Faizuddin, medical officer at Munger sadar hospital, is supervising uninterrupted oxygen supply to the trapped girl, daughter of Nachiketa Sao, through rubber-pipes inside the bore-well.
"I have heard the baby's cries through the bore-well," Faizuddin said. "The sadar hospital has installed a jumbo oxygen cylinder at the site to supply oxygen to the trapped baby." "The district administration is trying its best to rescue the baby," said Rameshwar Pandey, deputy development commissioner.
"A powerful torch, provided by a private party, is being used to see the movements of the trapped baby," said a senior police officer on the spot.
Nachiketa's family was sitting two feet from the mouth of the borewell, when the baby suddenly walked up to it and fell inside, an eye-witness told The Telegraph. "I'm not in a position to say anything ," Umesh Prasad Sao, the baby's grandfather, said.
Till the time of going to press, the Munger administration had sought help from army engineers in Jamalpur to dig a parallel hole and rescue the baby.
