Nalanda police are claiming a breakthrough in the murder probe of a security personnel and a cashier at Sohsarai on Monday.

Brajnandan Kumar and Ranjit Kumar were murdered while on their way to refill cash in an ATM. A special investigation team (SIT) had been formed to probe the case.

Nalanda superintendent of police (SP) Kumar Ashish said the SIT, led by Sadar sub-divisional police officer Nishit Priya, raided different hideouts and nabbed Yogendra Kumar and Chandan Kumar Pandey. The police said both were employed by the private security agency assigned to refill cash into ATMs.

Yogendra, a resident of Rahui in Nalanda, and Chandan, a native of neighbouring Jamui district, confessed to the crime and named their absconding aides. The gang intercepted the cash van and looted a bag. One of them fired at Brijnandan, the security guard, when he resisted the loot. His assistant Ranjit was also attacked by the assailants who were on bike.

SP Ashish said the SIT found the licenced gun that the assailants had snatched from the security guard. "Raids are on to nab other members of the gang," he said. The police also recovered Rs 40 lakh from the abandoned cash van. The SP had earlier denied loot.
