Patna, Sept. 22: Two persons were arrested for allegedly assaulting and misbehaving with two foreign tourists near Rajgir within 24 hours of the incident.

The accused, identified as Balbir Paswan and Sandesh Rajvanshi, were produced in the Biharsharif court today, which remanded them in judicial custody for two weeks.

Rajgir sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Faresh Ram said the two accused, residents of Rajgir Kund and Lenin Nagar respectively, have confessed to their involvement in the crime.

“The chargesheet against the accused has been submitted in the court within 24 hours and the court will be requested to put the case on speedy trial,” he said.

The police officer said the complaint was lodged on the basis of the statements of the tourists, Alex Casper (26) and Cliozansvliet (24), who had come to visit Rajgir from Bodhgaya on Friday.

Alex, who suffered injuries on his left hand, was admitted to a Rajgir hospital for treatment.

On being asked whether the foreign nationals had to depose before the trial court or not, the SDPO clarified that their presence in the court was not required for getting the accused convicted.

“The complaint has been lodged on the basis of information given to the police by the victims,” he told The Telegraph.

Both the tourists left for their destination today.

“An intensive search has been launched in the area to apprehend other persons involved in the attack on the tourists who had gone to Vipulachal hills without any prior information of the local police,” Paswan said, adding that police escort is provided to the visitors, particularly foreign tourists.
