Automobile dealer Nikhil Priyadarshi, an accused in the alleged sexual exploitation case of a former Congress minister's minor daughter, was produced in a Patna court with his father on Friday.

The court remanded the father-son duo to 14 days in judicial custody in Beur Central Jail. Nikhil and his father, Krishna Bihari Sinha, a retired IAS officer, were brought to Patna from Uttarakhand on a three-day transit remand after their arrest during a routine vehicle check on Tuesday.

Patna senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj said Nikhil would be taken on police remand for interrogation in the case.

"His interrogation will throw light on the involvement of other people in the alleged sexual abuse case," he added.

Earlier in the day, the sports utility vehicle carrying Nikhil and his father met with an accident in Bhojpur, around 60km ahead of Patna.

The SSP said a truck hit the vehicle from behind in which Nikhil was travelling with security personnel. "However, nobody was injured in the mishap," he said.

Nikhil's relatives, on the other hand, alleged that he suffered minor injuries in the collision en route to Patna from Uttarakhand.

"It's a conspiracy hatched by some senior police officers to kill Nikhil and make it look like a road accident so that the real culprits can be spared," Nikhil's sister told a select group of reporters in Patna on Friday.

Sources said it took three days for the Patna police to reach the Bihar capital from Uttarakhand by road, which usually takes two days.

"Nikhil's father Sinha is a senior citizen. So, we had to take all precautions while travelling by road," a police officer, who was sent to Uttarakhand, said on his return to the capital.

Another accused in the case, Brajesh Pandey, is evading arrest. Sources said the police would focus on him after Nikhil's arrest. Pandey, a senior Congress leader, is considered close to many influential politicians and bureaucrats.

The ex-minister's daughter had lodged an FIR with the SC/ST police station in Patna on December 22 last year alleging Nikhil, who owned an automobile showroom near Saguna Mor, exploited her on the pretext of marriage. She was also threatened with dire consequences when she told Nikhil that she would expose him. Nikhil's father and brother Manish Priyadarshi have been charged with abatement of crime.
