Darjeeling, June 1: The forest department has hit upon a novel idea of keeping wildlife sanctuaries clean and green, while educating youths about the need for conservation.

The Darjeeling Wildlife Division 1 will organise a camp for school students at the Singalila National Park on Friday, which will provide the children with first-hand knowledge of wildlife.

Part of the government of India?s conceptual plan envisaged for all sanctuaries across the country to promote such activities, the camp will be organised at Gairibas, along the famous Sandakphu trekking trail.

?The participants will learn about the wildlife and will also clean up the Singalila National Park, which is home to various animals like the red panda and the Himalayan black bear. Such activities will help students get a better perspective of wildlife. The programme will be funded by the forest department,?said Raju Das, the divisional forest officer, Darjeeling Wildlife Division 1.

Plans are also in the pipeline to organise another camp for students at the Singalila National Park in October and November.
