IN MEMORIAM

October 29 at Snehalata Bhavan, 500 Keyatala Road (near Somnath Hall); 6 pm: Mitali Bharat-Bangladesh Sanskriti Sansad remembers Kanika Bandyopadhyay (born October 12, 1924) her 81st birth anniversary. Maya Sen and journalist Amitava Chowdhury will be felicitated on this occasion.

Till October 31 at Soumya?s Creation, 57/9 Ballygunge Circular Road; 10 am - 7 pm: A getting-ready-for-Diwali showing of costume jewellery (ranging from beads and costume to more traditional ethnic pieces) and home accessories (candles, durries, ceramic, wrought iron, framed pictures, wooden trays). Till October 31 at Artisana, 13 Chowringhee Terrace, 1st floor; 10 am - 7.30 pm: Crafts Council of West Bengal presents an exhibition of terracotta lamps and garden accessories, and textiles and natural dye cotton fabrics. Till November 4 at Sasha Shop, 27 Mirza Ghalib Street; 10 am - 7 pm; Sunday (10 am - 1 pm): Sasha, an NGO and founder member of Fair Trade Forum, presents The Festival of Lights, an exhibition of carved dokra and wrought iron diyas and candle stands from Orissa and Bastar, terracotta candle stands, and diyas, candles and bamboo lights.

October 30 at G.D. Birla Sabhagar; 11 am: Professor P. Lal reads Sanjaya?s report to Dhritarastra of the 10th day?s battle at Kurukshetra in which ?woman-man? Sikhandin confronts Pitamaha Bhisma, and the Pandavas devise a shabby tactic to kill Bhisma, in the 300th weekly Sunday session of his sloka-by-sloka English transcreation of Vyasa?s Mahabharata.

ALBUM RELEASE

October 30 at Sri Aurobindo Bhavan, 8 Shakespeare Sarani; 12.30 pm: Hon?ble Justice Shyamal Kumar Sen, chairperson, Human Rights Commission, will release an album (CD/cassette) of Tagore songs rendered by Sikha Basu.
