DRAMA

November 17 at Mukta Angan; 6.30 pm: Shouvanik presents Dant Pake Bandha. Dir: Chandan Das. November 17 at Bijon Theatre; 6.30 pm: Anya Theatre will stage Pet Churi. November 18 at Girish Mancha; 6.30 pm: Nabamayukh presents Bhadreswariri Galpo. Direction: Rishi Mukhopadhyay.

THEATRE FEST

November 14 - 17 at Academy of Fine Arts; 6 pm & 7 pm: Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre presents a multilingual folk theatre festival with two one-hour plays each evening. November 14 at 6 pm: Refugee, Sumangleela, Manipuri, presented by Bahari Thongthang Artists Association and directed by Oareppa Naba; and at 7 pm: Bakasur Badh, Ankhiyanat, Asomiya, presented by Kalijhar Cultural Troupe, Assam, and directed by Heor Mohanta. November 15 at 6 pm: Mirza Sahib, Mughal Tamasha, Oriya, presented by Video Vision, Orissa, and directed by Basant Mohanty; and at 7 pm: Maladak, Bhojpuri, presented by Shilpayan, North 24 Parganas, and directed by Ashis Chattopadhyay. November 16 at 6 pm: Dulari Bai, Chhtaisgarhi, Hindi, presented by Trokarshi, Bhopal and directed by K.G. DANCE DRAMA

November 15 at G.D. Birla Sabhagar; 7 pm: Vaishnav Padavali, Bhanu Singha O Ekti Charitra — a dance drama choreographed in the Bharata Natyam style. Concept, choreography and dance by Madhuboni Chatterjee.

EXHIBITION

Till November 18 at Academy of Fine Arts; 12 noon - 7.30 pm: Khadi — The Fabric of Freedom. An exhibition showcasing 108 varities of plain khadi fabrics, ranging from the sheerest to the coarsest textures, and a collection of 108 khadi saris. Accompanied by a limited edition set of 100 volumes, each containing 108 swatches of plain khadi textures. The exhibition is sponsored by the Volkart Foundation, Switzerland.

FILM SHOW

Today at Hind and Lighthouse: Cine Central presents the International Forum of New Cinema with the screening of Paradise for You (Iran) and The Deserted Valley (Vietnam) at 10 am; Red Dust (Croatia) and Bounce ko Gals (Japan) at 2 pm; Back to Freedom (Israel) and Jubilee (New Zealand) at 6 pm; today at Lighthouse, 9 am: Spotlight on the Japanese Cinema, Past and Present: A Fugitive from the Past.

MUSIC

November 14 at the Vivekananda Hall, The Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture, Gol Park; 6 pm: A jugalbandi on pakhawaj and tabla by Bhawani Shankar and Abhijit Banerjee. November 16 at G.D. Birla Sabhagar; 6.30 pm: Baikali presents Sarmila Bose in Missing You — a presentation of songs in ‘biraha’ composed by Rabindranath, Atulprosad, Nazrul and others; to be followed by Purbita Mallick and Chandreyee Basu Thakur in Manipuri and Mohiniyattam presentations. WORKSHOP

Till November 16 at the Seagull Arts and Media Resource Centre; 2 pm - 7 pm: The Seagull Arts and Media Resource Centre presents wwWoyzeck — a workshop as part of India: City Limits project of ELAN (European Live Arts Network). The workshop, conducted by Dr Firenza Guidi, artistic director of ELAN, aims to create projects/performances that inspire and promote collaboration between performers and artists from different parts of the world. FESTIVAL

Today at Saastha Samooham, 42 Lake Avenue: Pratishta Dinam Day (Installation Day of Lord Ayyappa idol) concludes today with Yagasalai Pooja, Sastha Moola Mantra Homam (at 7 am), Poornahuti, Deeparadhanai (at 9.30 am), Mahabhishekam (at 10 am), Kalasabhishekam (at 10.30 am) and Deeparadhanai, Aseervadham (at 11 am).

ART

Till November 18 at Chitrakoot Art Gallery; 3 pm - 8 pm: An exhibition of Ganesh Haloi’s recent works (2001-2002). November 13 - 17 at Birla Academy of Art & Culture; 4 pm - 8 pm: A solo exhibition of paintings of Mohammad Fokhrul Islam.

LECTURE

Today at Shivananda Hall, The Ramakrishna Mission Institute of Culture; 6 pm: Swami Sarvabhutananda will speak in Hindi on ‘Bhagavad-Gita’.

CHILDREN’S DAY

November 14 at Toys Kemp @ Impressions, Azimganj House, 7 Camac Street; 5 pm - 8 pm: Fancy dress competition for children along with gifts and prizes.

VARIETY

November 15 at Gyan Manch; 6 pm: Samantoral presents a programme of recitation by Bhaskar Deb and songs by Pamela Mukherjee.
