Remembering Tapan Sinha
T he quintessential Bengali filmmaker, both in spirit and world-view, Tapan Sinha is unquestionably one of India’s leading directors. In a long and prolific career spanning almost five decades, his works have varied in theme and genre, but his style and aesthetics have remained constant. A storyteller-par-excellence, his films are also brilliantly crafted in terms of structure and technique. Eschewing experimentation, he has striven to deliver films which have been commercially viable yet aesthetically pleasing, socially relevant and thought provoking. To be inaugurated today at 6 pm by Tarun Majumdar and Soumitra Chattopadhyay, Flash Back, Flash Forward: In Tribute to Tapan Sinha is a five-day festival on the legendary filmmaker. Besides the screening of some of Sinha’s landmark films, it features documentaries and discussions on him, along with an exhibition (till June 6, 3 pm - 7 pm) of memorabilia on the master’s life and works with rare photographs, film stills, film posters and personal belongings. To be screened today: A Noble Creator (documentary by Samir Banerjee) and Aarohi. June 3: Zindagi Zindagi; June 4: Louha Kapat; June 5: Aandhar Periye; June 6: Kshudhita Pashan, Jagadish Chandra Bose (documentary by Tapan Sinha) and Hansuli Bnaker Upakatha.

BOOK LAUNCH
