Tagore’s music reinvented
To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, this evening’s concert presented by Kolikata Yuba Sangha promises to offer music lovers an inimitable experience. Divided into two sections, the first will be a symphony orchestra of Tagore songs by 50 musicians, comprising 25 vocalists and 25 instrumentalists (conducted by Debojyoti Bose). The second part of the concert features experimental, instrumental duet recitals by Debojyoti Bose (sarod) and Bickram Ghosh (tabla and other percussion instruments). The duo will present instumental versions of Tagore songs along with the rendition of what Bose calls Tagore ragas, or ragas which he feels were created by Tagore. This concert also marks 75 years of Kolikata Yuba Sangha and is being hosted in aid of underprivileged students of its night school.
