Calcutta: Dialogues, the city's LGBT film festival, was inaugurated at Basusree cinema on Thursday evening.

The three-day festival, into its 11th year, is co-hosted by Sappho for Equality, Pratyay Gender Trust and Goethe Institut. This is the first time that the festival films are being shown at a commercial theatre outside the Max Mueller Bhavan premises.

The opening film was Ananya Kasaravalli's Harikatha Prasanga (The Chronicles of Hari), a portrayal of the life of a male Yakshagana artiste who performs in female roles, and who asks himself whether he is a man playing a woman's role or a woman who is playing a man's role.

Passes can be collected from Basusree, noon-6pm.
