Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari's convoy was hit by a truck on Friday.

As a result of the impact, the front portion of the car was severely damaged. The incident took place at East Medinipur's Marishadah, reports anandabazar.com.

The driver of the truck is absconding, as per reports.

Adhikari is however safe despite the clash that took place at around 2 pm.

Adhikari took off from his residence at Kanthi at around 1.30 pm to inaugurate a Rath Yatra before his convoy met with the accident. BJP has demanded a probe into the incident stating it was a ploy against the Leader of Opposition.

The ruling Trinamul has however refuted such allegations.

Later Adhikari tweeted, "A heavy vehicle rammed into a CRPF escort car of my convoy. By the grace of Lord Jagannath no body was hurt.I am not injured & would continue attending scheduled events.I am grateful for the innumerous calls enquiring about my well being & would assure everyone that I am fine."
