Children of Euro Kids VIP Road put up a performance for their parents at their annual day at Nazrul Tirtha, New Town, recently.
They danced to rhymes and enacted Goldilocks and the Three Bears. They also showcased the culture of various states. For instance, to showcase Bengal, boys wore dhotis, a vest and tied a red gamcha around their stomachs and danced to Dhitang dhitang bole. To portray Punjab, kids wore bright bhangra costumes and danced to the title track of the film Rang de Basanti.
“My mama, papa, dadi and dadu have all come to watch me dance,” smiled three-year-old Bhavya Sharma after dancing to If you’re happy and you know it. “Since the children are so small we taught them simple dance steps so they could pick them up easily,” said teacher Chaitali Chatterjee, feeding the tots backstage after their performance.
The most-awaited event was the fashion show. Three teachers stood at strategic points on stage and the kids had been asked to walk from one teacher to another, with their hands on their waist.
The girls wore colourful frocks and hair bands and one even carried a purse. The boys looked dapper in jeans. One wore a black suit with a stole and another wore a hat that got him so fascinated that he almost forgot to hold his partner’s hand during their catwalk.
Parents laughed and applauded and the principal thanked everyone for their efforts. “Our benchmark for success is defined by the children. And since not a single child cried today I dare say that this has been our most successful event yet,” smiled principal Sujata Bhartia.
