Malati Roy, the BJP councillor of ward 1, is under treatment at the Siliguri district hospital and a police complaint has been filed.
Abhijit Roychoudhury, the BJP general secretary of Siliguri (organisational) district, said: "A group of around 40 women went to councillor's home this afternoon and started abusing her verbally, alleging lack of proper civic services in the area. As she tried to pacify them, they assaulted her."
The BJP has alleged that Trinamul-backed miscreants orchestrated the attack.
