Kalimpong, Sept. 3: The east zone final of a quiz contest for listed ICSE and ISC schools will be held at Rockvale Academy here on September 6.
Twelve teams, six each in ICSE and ISC segments, will be participating in the contest held under aegis of the Association of Schools of Indian Secondary Certificate (ASISC).
Six institutions from the state capital, including last year’s national champion Calcutta Public School, two from Cooch Behar and three in the hills will take part in the competition. The hill schools are Rockvale Academy that will have teams in both segments, Saptashree Gyanpeeth in Kalimpong and Himali Boarding School in Kurseong.
Prakash Pradhan, the director of Rockvale, said the winner of the contest would represent the zone in the national final that will be held at Methodist School Dankuni in Hooghly on October 18 and 19. The theme of the east zone final is Olympics. Every round will feature at least one question on Olympics.
As the hills are hosting such an event for the first time, ASISC has outsourced the programme to the Darjeeling-based Megamind Incorporation. Pradhan said Upen Mani Pradhan of Megamind would be the quiz master.
Rockvale will be offering special prizes to the contestants as well as members of the audience who give right answers.
“Apart from the certificates that are usually given to the winners by the ASISC, we will also offer prizes,” said Pradhan, who is also the president of ASISC’s east zone chapter. He added that although quiz contests are popular in the hills, time had come to engage the schools in other parts of the country to encourage such competitions.
