Madhyamgram: Residents blocked the Madhyamgram-Sodepur Road on Thursday to protest the alleged police failure to arrest those who shot dead a man inside a barber's shop in the area last Friday.

Ten to 12 men had pumped 15 bullets into Prakash Dey Sarkar, alias Gautam, 52, a builder and materials supplier.

Traffic came to a stop on the road that connects Jessore Road with BT Road as the blockade continued for more than an hour from noon.

They alleged only one person has been arrested in connection with the murder till now though witnesses confirmed there were at least 10 men on four motorcycles.

Dey Sarkar's brother Kartik had named seven people, including Kuru Bose who has been arrested, in his FIR with Madhyamgram police station.

"The others named in the FIR are at large. It appears they were hired for the operation," an officer said. "We are raiding various places to find them."
