A resident of Balurghat, South Dinajpur, has filed a complaint against actor-cum-politician Soham Chakraborty, accusing him of taking 15 lakh from him to play a lead role in a proposed film.

Tarun Das, who is from Mangalpur, filed the complaint at the Balurghat police station on Thursday night.

“In 2018, I had plans to produce a Bengali commercial film and approached Soham Chakraborty to play the lead role. Based on discussions, I paid 15 lakh to him in installments as remuneration,” said Das.

“After receiving the money, Soham assured that the shooting would begin soon. However, over time, he repeatedly postponed the shooting schedule, citing professional commitments and other engagements,” he added.

In his complaint, Das also stated he requested Soham return the money when his financial condition was not good.

“I did not get the money, and instead, I was threatened with dire consequences and even warned that I would be implicated in false legal cases if I pressed for the money,”
he said.

Soham, who had joined the Trinamool Congress, lost from the Karimpur Assembly Constituency in Nadia district in the recently concluded polls.

“As he was politically influential, I did not dare to take any steps against him. But now that there has been a political change in the state, I filed the complaint yesterday and want the police to take necessary steps,” said Das.

A police source said a case has been registered. Investigation is in progress.

Soham could not be contacted. Calls and messages made to him went unanswered.
