Kalimpong, April 11: A defamation suit has been filed against Kalimpong subdivisional officer A.K. Yadav on April 7 for allegedly misbehaving with two lawyers who had gone to him for a hearing on November 8.

?I have filed a defamation case at the Kalimpong civil judge junior division court on behalf of my client, Leena Lama, a Kalimpong Bar Association member. Yadav misbehaved with Leena and her colleague, Masood A. Sultan, when they went to him to deposit their client?s rent,? said advocate Pravakar Dewan. Yadav is also the rent collector of the Darjeeling Improvement Fund Area and the Development Fund Area.

?Last year, a notice was served on him, telling him that a defamation case would be filed against him if he failed to pay Rs 25,000 to Leena Lama within two months. Since he has failed to pay the amount, we have filed the suit,? the association secretary, Mazhar Ali, said.

?My client?s reputation and goodwill is at stake after the incident happened,? Dewan added.

Yadav declined to say anything more than that the matter would be settled amicably.
