“We are preparing a documentary to highlight the investment potential in north Bengal by utilising the Siliguri corridor as the key entry point. I have spoken to Goutam Ghose and sought his advice to realise the project. We are readying the draft and will send it to him soon. Once the documentary is ready, we will screen it at different events,” mayor Gautam Deb said on Thursday.

He was speaking at a seminar titled “Prospects for North Bengal- Investments in Sustainability” organised by the Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCC&I) at a hotel in Siliguri.

Deb said Siliguri had emerged as a city well-connected by air, rail and road over the past few years.

“It is the entry point to the entire Northeast and is surrounded by rich natural resources. There is adequate infrastructure for commercial investments here as the city is located near international borders,” said Deb.

BCC& I representatives said the seminar was organised to discuss opportunities in business and tourism. According to them, northeastern India, Bangladesh and Nepal provide a market of over a million people and north Bengal is at the centre of it.

Sunil K.C., vice-president, Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce & Industry, was present at the seminar.
