Copa America 2015 is over but the football fever is still raging among the Messis and Neymars of city schools.

The reason? The biggest inter-school football tournament is on and all school football stars are chasing a single dream - lifting their own World Cup, Keventer Cup 2015, organised by Debanjan Sen Foundation in association with TTIS.

They are all eager to deliver in their school jerseys just like their idols want to when they don the national colours. Though their heroes couldn't win any major trophy for their countries of late, these rising stars are determined to make their schools proud.

Now that the tournament that started with 38 school teams has entered the quarter-final stage, Metro picks the stars of the tournament.

Messi brigade

St. James' School's attack has been very impressive till now.

It comprises four skilful Lionel Messi fans - Kiyan Nassiri of Class VIII; Arindam Das of Class XII; Derek Lee of Class XI, and Micah Peters of Class XI. Together, they have scored 10 goals in five matches till now. Their combination even unnerved St. Xavier's that boasts one of the strongest defence lines in the tournament.

Arindam's winning goal against Xavier's preceded by a brilliant solo run down the left flank was a stunner.

They also helped the school team win one major trophy recently - the inter-school tournament hosted by St. James' as part of their sesquicentenary celebrations. The Messi quartet hopes to do what their idol could not in the World Cup 2014 and the Copa America 2015 finals: score and win the Keventer Cup for their team.

Neymar gang

They are the dark horses. No one considered them favourites before the tournament, but the Neymar and Brazil fans of St. Thomas' Boys' School, Kidderpore, made themselves count by scoring 11 goals in four matches.

They are playing in the Samba colours to show their loyalty to their hero and his team. And though the Samba boys made shocking exits in the last two major tournaments, the St. Thomas' boys are confident of bagging the Keventer Cup.

"If the ground condition doesn't worsen because of rain, we can beat any team," said Anthony de Monti of Class X. Anthony along with Ian Williams of Class XII make a lethal attack team and they both swear by Neymar.

"He is the ultimate footballer. He has everything - power, skill and style," said Ian. Besides Anthony and Ian, they have a number of talented players in the squad. Wingers Ronnie Johnson of Class X and Arka Das of Class XI, central midfielder Syed Md. Yasa and stopper David Heartly have given brilliant performances in all the matches.

CR7 followers

If Messi and Neymar are in a contest, can Cristiano Ronaldo be far behind?

Both the key players of St. Xavier's Collegiate School, the last year's runner-up, are die-hard CR7 fans.

One is Romario - not the Brazilian star - Romario Angelo Topno of Class X and the other is Kevin Lee of Class XII.

"Ronaldo is the best. He can make the game as well as score unlike Messi who can only score," said Romario. "His headers are really strong and he can even jump more than a basketball player. So, he is a complete footballer and obviously ahead of Messi."

Though St. Xavier's is not as strong as it was last year, no one can rule them out because of Romario who has already proved himself a rising star by winning the most valuable player award in last year's Keventer Cup.

He also plays for the Mohun Bagan under-19 squad. His deadly free kicks and long rangers can change the complexion of any game any time like it happened against Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan when he scored from two brilliant free kicks.

Since St. Xavier's has a strong defence line, they have been playing mostly counter attacks and Kevin has had an instrumental role in it. The left-winger has great speed and dribbling skills to flummox opposition defence.

He scored the lone goal against National High School that had lost to no other team in the group stage.

But the real test awaits the Xaverians on Monday when they face the seemingly strongest side of the tournament - La Martiniere for Boys - in the quarter-final.

Deadly duo

Defending champion La Martiniere for Boys is also balanced in terms of hero worship.

Their captain and star striker Duane Andrews of Class XII, a CR7 fan, has scored seven goals till now in the tournament while the other striker Brinsley Murray of Class IX is a LM10 fan.

And the Messi-Ronaldo combination of LMB has torn apart all others on their way to the quarters by helping the team record 21 goals in five matches.

Their best performance was in their very first match when they slammed 10 goals against The Future Foundation School. Though Duane, the dribble king, is a veteran in school football, for Brinsley this is the first Keventer Cup and he has already impressed everyone by netting four in LMB's goal rush.

Can the Martinians go all the way and make it a double? We will get to know on July 19, the date set for the finals.
