Dear Mamma...

Sister Mary Frances...nah! Mamma! Yes, that is what we called her when we were in school (Favourite nun scores a ton, May 10). Being an ex-student of QMS (Our Lady Queen of the Missions School), Park Circus, I can recollect so many occasions spent with Mamma. We called her Mamma out of love. I still remember those days when we would go to the chapel and she would stand there, waiting for the students to come so that she could talk to them. Mamma has been very special for us. She always keeps her dear students in her prayers.

It’s been four years since I passed out of school but I still remember Mamma’s face exactly the way I saw her years back. She is very sweet and adorable. Mamma, we love you and we know you love us too. Stay the way you are Mamma! From a proud QMS-er! Let the banners fly high!

Madhurima Sarkar,
Shri Shikshayatan College

Wish you a very happy birthday. May God continue to shower his blessings on you. You are the most beautiful part of our school. Thank you Mamma, for being there for us, thank you for praying for us,thank you for being a second mother to me....to all of us. Most of all, thank you for being such an inspiration to all of us. Wish you a very happy birthday, again, with love.

Riona Chakrabarti,
Class IX B, Our Lady Queen of the Missions School

Respected Sister Frances, This 100th birthday is just a milestone in your life. May you grow to be another 100 years, so that this world can receive a beautiful helping hand like you. May the Good Lord bless you. Happy Centennial Birthday!

Tara Sanwarwalla,

I would like to congratulate Sister Frances on her 100th birthday and pray for her good health and happiness. I salute her willpower and spirit. She has proved the saying that one is as old as she thinks herself to be. It is very important that we stay young at heart forever. She has shown all of us that life is precious and we must live it to the fullest.

Kiran Agarwal,
Dum Dum Road

Belated happy birthday to you ma’am.

Tua Ghatak,
Salt Lake

I wish Sister Mary Frances de Chantal many happy returns of the day and all the best. You are a source of inspiration to millions.

A.S. Mehta,

Gone too soon

Any death is painful and when it is a six-year-old playful and vibrant child (Tragedy at city school, May 9) it is an irreparable loss for the parents and family and also shocking for everyone else too. At this hour of immense grief, no words of solace can help comfort the bereaved parents. Blaming the school authorities, nursing home doctors and lodging FIRs cannot bring back the dear little boy. The school authorities did what best they could do and the aggrieved parents would perhaps realise that with time. The nursing home doctors too did their best to resuscitate the child but their efforts were futile.

Basudeb Bhattacharya,
Rector,Mahavir Institute ofEducation & Research

My heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family. Whatever might be the cause of the death of innocent Rajanyo, I would like to point out that most schools nowadays treat students as mere roll numbers and not individuals. Their likes, dislikes, comfort or discomfort are of no concern. Also, classrooms are often cramped and the number of students higher than the permissible limit. It is unfortunate that most schools in the city do not have an ambulance for emergency or even doctors available during school hours. It is time the school authorities pay heed to these matters.

Anuradha Raza,
Park Circus
