Jalpaiguri: A five-year-old boy who had his left hand fractured after a bicycle fall was given a plaster cast on his right hand at the super-specialty hospital in Jalpaiguri.
Later, as the boy complained of pain, the cast was removed and his fractured hand was plastered on Tuesday.
The boy's father has filed a complaint with the hospital superintendent, who has ordered an inquiry.
On Sunday, Ranabir, son of Sonu Das and Manju Das and a resident of Sanjaynagar Colony of Jalpaiguri town fell from his bicycle. He suffered injury on both hands, prompting his parents to rush him to the super-specialty hospital.
"The on duty doctor there advised for an x-ray. We went to the district hospital where the x-ray was done. We were also confused and had no idea whether his right or left hand has fractured," said Sonu.
The family collected the x-ray plate and went to the doctor at the super-specialty hospital again where the doctor confirmed that his left hand has fractured and had to be put in a plaster cast.
On Monday, Ranabir was again taken to the hospital. "We met the doctor who sent is to another room where there some paramedics. We handed over the prescription, the x-ray plate and other documents. They checked those and plastered his right hand. We were a bit confused but returned home," said Manju.
Doctors later said his right hand has been wrongly put in a plaster cast. "We will surely conduct an inquiry to see whether there had been any lapse on the part of any staff," said Gayaram Naskar, the hospital superintendent.
