Chennai Express may chug into cinemas this Id, but the Shah Rukh Khan Express will roll into Calcutta today. King Khan will go 1,2,3,4… get on the dance floor in the city that he keeps coming back to as the owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders. But today, he will be a man on a mission: to promote his Id biggie at City Centre New Town, in an hour-long extravaganza.
Get set for the Shah Rukh show
WHAT: Get on the Express
WITH: Shah Rukh Khan
WHERE: City Centre New Town
WHEN: 6pm
WHAT ‘Get on the Express’ with Shah Rukh Khan, presented by Emami Fair and Handsome and Osaa, in association with t2, at City Centre II from 6pm.
THE SHOW Remember the SRK show at Salt Lake’s City Centre in October 2011 when G.One had swooped down on Calcutta to promote his Diwali home production Ra.One? Well, this promises to be bigger and glitzier with the Bollywood Badshah interacting with his fans and showing off his signature moves for an hour this evening.
Expect a lot of banter, a series of witty one-liners SRK-style and a whole lot of song ’n’ dance as Shah Rukh the master entertainer promotes Chennai Express in Calcutta. It will be just SRK and you as City Centre II plays host to his hits from the
Rohit Shetty film – 1,2,3,4,… get on the dance floor to Kashmir main tu Kanyakumari to the Lungi dance!
THE FILM Directed by hit machine Rohit Shetty, Chennai Express will be Shah Rukh Khan’s first major Id release. While the YouTube trailer has 4,659,329 views within a month of hitting airwaves, the songs have become a rage already. Billed as the biggest release of the quarter, Chennai Express, set to hit screens on August 9, is SRK’s first collaboration with Golmaal man Shetty and his second film with Deepika Padukone after their 2007 Diwali blockbuster Om Shanti Om. Over the last few weeks, a range of marketing activities — a Chennai Express game app to an auction of the lead pair’s costumes — have built hype around the film. “Bahut hi funny hai… some of the set-pieces are hilarious. Family-wise funny hai… I have done a film like this after a long time… verbal comedy, situational comedy,” is how Shah Rukh had sold Chennai Express to t2 in an interview last month.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Landing up at City Centre II for a slice of SRK with your gang this evening? Make sure you brush up on the following…
Learn the lyrics of 1,2,3,4,… get on the dance floor. Memorise the bit that goes: 1,2,3,4 get on the dance floor, 1,2,3,4 get on the dance floor/ Booti shape, pooti shape/ Dappan koothu hard core/ Shoulder hichak michak, body hichak michak/ Give me, give me, give me, give me, give me, give me, some more. Yes, more of SRK!
Pretty young things need to get on to YouTube and learn south star Priyamani’s steps from 1,2,3,4… What if you are the lucky one who SRK calls on stage for a jig?
Pick up Deepika’s Tamil-meets-Telugu-meets-Malayalam accent and try it on Shah Rukh when you get the chance. Be his Meenamma Lochni (yes, that’s what Deepika is called in Chennai Express) for a minute!
Practise your screaming skills. After all, Chennai Express at City Centre II must out-shout Ra.One at City Centre I, right?
Stringent security arrangements mean that you need to land up early. You wouldn’t want to miss The Man’s entry, would you?
The Met Office predicts rain: so carry your umbrellas and raincoats. Make sure to stock up on drinking water while you wait.
There will be traffic restrictions on the road opposite City Centre II between 4pm and 8.30pm. So, if you’re in a hurry, do take VIP Road from the airport. Unless, of course, you want to join the SRK show.
Or as Shah Rukh would say, get on this train, baby!
