A private healthcare group based in Calcutta has announced an investment of Rs 200 crore in two of its units located in and around Siliguri to expand infrastructure and provide better services to patients.

The Medica Group of Hospitals runs a nursing home in Pradhannagar in the city and a cancer hospital in Rangapani on its outskirts.

“We will invest Rs 100 crore to expand facilities at the cancer hospital in Rangapani and another Rs 100 crore to expand the clinic in Pradhannagar. During the next three to five years, we plan to expand our Siliguri facility in terms of the number of beds and area,” said group chairman Alok Roy.

According to him, the 200- bed private nursing home will get 200 more beds in the coming years.

The group, Roy said, intends to provide more facilities at the cancer hospital, where they have introduced a Halcyon radiotherapy machine with image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for cancer patients.

Healthcare summit

A two-day healthcare summit organised by a trade body started in Siliguri on Thursday to draw private investments in the field of healthcare infrastructure, the pharmaceutical industry and medical technology engineering.

“Siliguri is an ideal destination for investments in the private health sector, given its strategic location. Private medical colleges and other allied units related to the health sector, including manufacturing units, can come up here,” said one of the organisers.
