Police have recovered four bodies from different locations of Cooch Behar and Malda districts in the past 24 hours.

In at least three cases, the police suspect that the victims have been murdered.

On Tuesday night, around 11.50pm, locals spotted the bodies of a couple in a swamp at Dhuparghat under Sahebganj police station of Cooch Behar.

Police said the bodies of Babu Modak, 40, and his wife Chandana, 33, had multiple wounds on faces and heads. “Both are residents of Uttar Barasakdal village,” said an officer.

The police said during preliminary investigation it was found out that there was some problem in the deceased’s family.

Meanwhile in Malda, Naresh Saha, 62, a retired police constable, died under mysterious circumstances on Wednesday morning.

Sources said Saha, a resident of Kutubpur-Babupara area of Malda town, didn’t return home on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning, some locals spotted Saha lying unconscious at Rathbari, a prominent locality of the town located under Englishbazar police station. They rushed him to the Malda Medical College & Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

In another incident, Bablu Hembram, 54, a migrant worker, was found dead with multiple wounds in a paddy field located under Chanchal police station of Malda on Wednesday morning.

He had returned home a couple of months back, his family members said. They have alleged that Bablu was murdered and have sought appropriate steps from the police.
