Park Circus: The ramp connecting the Parama and AJC Bose Road flyovers will not be ready before December, an official of Hindustan Construction Company that is building the ramp said on Tuesday.
A 350m stretch of Circus Avenue along the ramp connecting to the AJC Bose Road flyover will remain closed from Tuesday night for three months for the construction of the ramp.
An officer in Lalbazar said police were under the impression that the ramp would be ready for a Puja launch.
The police agreed to shut down the stretch along the ramp connecting to the AJC Bose Road flyover on that understanding, the officer said.
Vehicles headed for Circus Avenue from the No.4 bridge will be diverted to Lower Range Road, a small stretch leading to AJC Bose Road from underneath the AJC Bose Road flyover.
Others can head straight down Meher Ali Road to New Park Street. This arrangement will be in place till 1pm, after which vehicles will be directed to Theatre Road.
"We will start erecting girders on 13 pillars on this stretch of Circus Avenue from Wednesday," an HCC engineer said.
"Once that is done, deck slabs will be built on the stretch and connected to part of Congress Exhibition Road."
Work won't stop with just laying the deck slabs, though, the engineer said.
Bitumen has to be laid for the road, markers fixed, street lamps installed and a drainage system worked out before vehicles can ply on the ramp, the engineer said.
All these will take at least five months, provided everything works on schedule, he said.
The police have put up several banners and posters around the area alerting people about the shutdown of the Circus Avenue stretch and the diversions in place.
Traffic officers have alerted the La Martiniere schools about the changes that will come into effect on Wednesday and sought the cooperation of parents.
Vehicles headed to AJC Bose Road will have to turn left from the Mullick Bazar-New Park Street crossing.
"Several mobile display boards with diversions details will be be put up at various points to help people," an officer said.
