Kurseong, Nov. 26: Residents here have joined hands with Darjeeling Initiative — the organisers of Greater Darjeeling Carnival — to revive the name of this town, famous for its schools.
“Though we have a lot of institutions here, some more than 120 years old, they are slowly fading from (public) memory. We want to bring back the name of the town (and along with it the names of the schools) by organising a winter festival,” said Santu Gurung, a member of the organising committee.
“The festival will start from December 13 and end on December 15 at Monteviot Ground. We have joined hands with the organisers of Darjeeling Carnival and the festival will be a part of the celebrations there,” he added.
A number of programmes have been lined up for the three-day fest.
“Several communities will put up cultural shows and so will local bands like Rifraf and Mantra. Apart from that, games for visiting tourists are also in the pipeline,” said Bikash Chettri, another member of the organising committee.
