Raiganj, Oct. 3: Inspired by the success of two students from town, the municipality here has decided to make their dreams come true.

Nandini Talukdar, a Class IX student of Raiganj Girls’ Higher Secondary School, and Bikram Chakrabarty, a Class VII student of Vidyachakra School, have visions of the ideal Bengal town that they would want to live in.

Both of them have bagged the first prize in a poster-drawing competition organised throughout the state in schools by the state municipal affairs department. The theme of the competition was “the town of your dreams”.

While Nandini won the first prize in Group B, comprising students from Class IX and X, Bikram won the Group A award, meant for students of Class V-VIII.

Today, at a felicitation organised by Raiganj Municipality, chairman Mohit Sengupta handed over mementoes and citations to the two. He said the municipal affairs department had awarded them a cash prize of Rs 5,000 each along with certificates.

“We had sent a large number of posters drawn by the students of the schools in town to the municipal affairs department. The department had held the competition on World Habitat Day, which is held on the first Monday in October,” Sengupta said.

The civic chief said he would use the ideas expressed by the children in their posters.

“The town of our dreams will have large parks, gardens and fountains which will exist in harmony with highrises and shopping malls. Wide roads with zebra crossings and footpaths are a must,” said Bikram and Nandini.
