Imran Khan rocks it in Bhaag bhaag DK Bose, the peppy number from July 1 release Delhi Belly |
Bhaag bhaag DK Bose, DK Bose, DK Bose/Aandhi Aayi Hai.
Munni has lost her reputation and Sheila her youth. So now it’s left to a young man — that too a Bose — to make the city dance to his tune. DK Bose is the song of the season — after Munni badnaam hui and Sheila ki jawaani have played out — with the Delhi Belly number raising a storm at discs and at private parties.
“I like all the Delhi Belly songs — Chudail and Nakkadwale disco, but DK Bose is my favourite. It is infectious and an intelligent song. The abuse in the lyrics is cleverly worded and the music has this great head-banging quality,” says Moushumi Mukherjee, 26. “All my friends like the track.”
No wonder the DJs are letting it rip, though the film starring Imran Khan does not hit the big screen before July 1. “I usually wait for the music release before playing a Bolly track, but this one I played before the release and the crowd at Shisha went crazy,” says DJ Girish D.
The no-nonsense, grungy lyrics bordering on the outrageous blended with high quality rock sound give the track its “cult” potential, he adds.
The day the song made it to Youtube, some young Calcuttans were quick to make the link their status message on Facebook. Others put the lyrics on their chat status.
Some DK Bose loyalists fear the song may not enjoy the mass appeal of a Munni or Sheila at weddings, sangeets and mehendi functions. “It has this uber cool, carefree feel about it and I love the metal rock sound of the track. But I think its appeal will be restricted to the urban youth,” says Arindam Bhattacharyya, a young professional.
But DJ Harish feels such demarcation is passe. “These days when a track catches on it catches on with everyone. We are already getting DK Bose requests at parties.” DJ Girish adds that while Munni and Sheila were “item numbers”, DK Bose has made its own space in the “club market”.
So, time for a remix? Harish sees no reason for one immediately. “It’s nice and peppy and dance-ready.”
Dhinka chika from Ready has been ruling the dance floors for a bit but it’s nowhere close to Munni or Sheila. Now, Bhaag Bhaag DK Bose is racing to be the next big thing.
