DRI rescue seven rare monkeys from outskirts of Siliguri

Three persons, all residents of Assam, have been arrested in this connection

A team of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) recovered seven monkeys of rare species from Ghoshpukur on the outskirts of Siliguri, on Monday.

Three persons, all residents of Assam, have been arrested in this connection.

According to sources, a raid was conducted on the basis of a specific input.

The monkeys were smuggled into India from Myanmar and were on their way to Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradeshin a car when they were intercepted.

Sources said among the primates which were rescued, include, three White Lipped Tamarin, two Panamanian White Faced, and two Golden Headed Lion Tamarin.

Those arrested have been identified as Tapan Chandra Majumdar, Rabin Boro, and Utu Deka, all residents of Kamrup in Assam.

The monkeys have been sent to the Bengal Safari Park.
