Cooch Behar: Railway Protection Force arrests Bangladeshi national from Mitali Express

A Bangladeshi national who had illegally boarded the Mitali Express which runs between Dhaka Cantonment and New Jalpaiguri was nabbed by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) at the zero point in Haldibari of Cooch Behar district during a routine check on Tuesday.

Sources said Jihad Sheikh, a 25-year-old from the Faridpur district of Bangladesh, had boarded the train at Chilahati, the first railway station in Bangladesh along the route, and was hiding in the washroom.

He was handed over to the BSF. After the completion of legal formalities, the youth was handed over by the BSF to the Border Guard Bangladesh at a flag meeting at the border.

Cough syrups seized

Biswanath Debnath and Ariful Mondal, who are residents of Ramkrishnapur, a village under the jurisdiction of Hili police station in South Dinajpur district, were intercepted by the 61st battalion of the BSF on Tuesday evening.

The duo were moving through Chourangi More in the Patiram area on a motorcycle. They were searched and 120 bottles of cough syrup were found in their possession.

The two were handed over to Patiram police.

The BSF also conducted anti-smuggling drives in some areas on Tuesday and Wednesday and seized cattle and cough syrup which were supposed to be transported to Bangladesh illegally.
