Raiganj, Oct. 3: No deaths due to diarrhoea in North Dinajpur were reported in the last 24 hours.

More people are, however, getting admitted to the two health centres at Hemtabad blocks where six persons died officially and more than 1,000 persons were affected during the last 11 days.

According to assistant chief medical officer of health Animesh Roy: “Medical teams have been sent to the affected villages. Medicines, bleaching power and halogen tablets are being distributed.”

Everything is being monitored from the control room set up at the district headquarters, Roy said.

Banglabari gram panchayat member Anisoor Rahman alleged that the patients were being denied admission at the Hemtabad block primary health centre.

“They are only referring cases to the Bangalbari primary health centre, where there is hardly any more room. Patients are forced to lie on the floor. We have brought it to the notice of higher authorities,” he said.

Chief medical officer of health Tapan Kumar Das said: “There were some misunderstanding. We had divided the responsibilities of immunisation and awareness camps between the two health centres on the basis of population. But no such demarcation lies in case of general medical treatment. I have already given necessary instruction to the Hemtabad BMOH.”
