Calcutta: Private schools have been asked to inform the state government in writing that they have not implemented the hiked fees they had announced earlier this year.
The schools have also been asked to give details of the fees being charged from students, the principal of a school said.
After issuing two notices to private schools on April 10 and 23 asking them not to increase students' fees this year, the government has sent a fresh one asking the institutions to send a reply stating the actions they had taken regarding school fees.
The principals of some schools also said officials from the offices of the respective district inspectors (DI) of schools had also contacted them over the phone asking them to provide details of the actions taken by them after receiving the government notices on freezing the fee hike.
A number of principals said they had already sent their replies to the government.
“We have clarified to the government that we will not implement the enhanced fees. The old fees will continue…. We have sent the details of our old fees that we will be charging now,” said the principal of a school.
The principal of another school said they had already collected the enhanced fees from the students for April.
“The students will be charged the old fees and the enhanced amount for April will be adjusted.
“We have sent all these details to the government,” the principal said.
Another principal said they had been asked to provide accurate information in their replies as the feedback would be used for future planning of the government.
The government had asked the schools not to increase the fees this year considering the inconvenience caused to guardians because of the lockdown.
