2 held for rhino horn poaching

Alipurduar, Nov. 17: Two people were arrested by the Cooch Behar forest department for alleged poaching. A “priceless” rhino horn had been recovered from the duo recently.

Cooch Behar divisional forest officer Kalyan Das said Ajit Sheikh and Muxad Ali belonged to Madarihat in Cooch Behar. The two revealed during interrogation that they belonged to a gang of poachers and timber smugglers who operated inside the Jaldapara wildlife sanctuary, home to the one-horned rhino. The gang was allegedly involved in killing and smuggling rhino horns, Das said.


Cricket tourney

Siliguri: The Durgapur Cricket Coaching Centre (DCCC) qualified for the All Bengal Day Night Sub-Junior Challenge Cup Knock-out Cricket tournament beating S.P. Roy Memorial Cricket Coaching Centre in a qualifying match held at Siliguri Women’s College grounds on Sunday. The inaugural match between DCCC and Netaji Subhash Cricket Coaching Centre will be played on November 18.


Kabaddi match

Siliguri: The inter-school kabbadi championship organised by Darjeeling District Women’s Sports association ended on Saturday with Sunita Sah bagging the woman of the tournament. Rangapani Kaliram Higher Secondary School won with 21 points with Phansidewa Residential High School as the runners-up.
