Calcutta, March 1: Trinamul Congress leader Mukul Roy today filed a defamation case against former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee at Calcutta High Court for allegedly making adverse comments against Mamata Banerjee.
In an interview to 24 Ghanta on February 5, Bhattacharjee had said he did not agree that Mamata was honest.
Calcutta: The high court on Friday granted bail to Ashok Bera, a district committee member of the CPM in East Midnapore who was arrested in connection with the Nandigram recapture case of November 2007.
Tamluk: A Madhyamik examinee was allegedly kidnapped on her way to the exam centre by two bike-borne youths in Tamluk on Friday. The girl was dragged out of her car and taken away, police said.
Burdwan: Two chit fund employees were arrested in Burdwan town on Friday on the charge of swindling depositors out of Rs 1 crore. The company they used to work for folded up two weeks ago. They have been remanded in seven days’ police custody.
