Calcutta: A second tender has been floated for the construction of a flyover in Jadavpur and another in Sector V as only one company had bid in response to the first tender.

The Calcutta Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) floated the second tender on March 16. Companies have time till April 10 to submit their bids.

"Only Larsen and Toubro had responded to the first tender. So, we had to float a second one. According to the rule, in this case there has to be at least two bids for a tender to be valid," a CMDA official said.

The first tender was floated in January. Though several companies had attended the pre-bid meeting, only one bid was finally submitted.

One of the proposed flyovers will come up between Dhakuria and KPC Medical College in Jadavpur. The other will run over College More in Sector V.

The northern end of the 1.82km flyover in Jadavpur will lie a little south of the Dhakuria bridge and the southern end near the gate of the medical college. The flyover will have four lanes - two in each flank.

There is a proposal to build a ramp that will lead towards South City mall. "It will be a one-way ramp. Only vehicles from south heading towards the mall will be able to access the ramp," an engineer aware of the project said.

The other flyover will be 415m-long and will run between Electronics Regional Test Laboratory and the Bank of India branch in Sector V. The two-lane flyover will enable motorists to avoid the snarl-prone College More.

Both projects will have to be completed within 24 months of bagging the contract.

"Only those firms that had built 50m spans were allowed to bid in the first tender. In the second tender, the requirement is 45m," an official said.
