Serious accusations against Tagore startle viewers as they watch the trailer of Rabindra Kabya Rahasya, a thriller directed by Sayantan Ghosal. Based on a possible conspiracy theory related to a lost manuscript of Tagore, the upcoming film promises to unlock a mystery that has already gripped the interest and attention of its audience.
The trailer is composed of a series of quick cuts of scenes from the past and present that offer glimpses of a story that blends music and mystery, emotion and action, creativity and crime into a unified whole. Building suspense and intrigue from the word go, it dives deep into a world full of deception, obsession and vengeance. As evident from the trailer, the story is about uncovering the truth behind a series of murders that take place in London during the present day. Investigating the case is Avik (Ritwick Chakraborty), a sleuth who is also a writer and Tagore researcher, and whose real purpose is to speak out against those so-called intellectuals of society who are intent on tarnishing Tagore’s reputation. He reaches London and meets Hiya (Srabanti Chatterjee), a Rabindrasangeet singer, and the duo strike up a friendship. Upon discovering that those who have been killed so far are all Tagore scholars, they realise that their lives too are at stake.
Rabindra Kabya Rahasya talks about significant issues pertaining to the legacy of Tagore and raises its finger against those who brazenly appropriate Tagore’s literary endowments for their personal gain. Set in London, with its well-known landmarks visible in the background, it gives a global dimension to the story and adds fuel to the idea of a wider conspiracy being underway. A whodunit thriller that explores the psychology of criminals, the film’s Tagore connection, with the trailer being sprinkled with snippets of popular Tagore numbers, and snatches of the Bard himself in his old age, has ensured that Rabindra Kabya Rahasya will definitely find its way into the hearts of movie lovers, no matter what genre of films they may have a preference for.
An attractive feature of the trailer is the gentle and subtle chemistry between the characters of Avik and Hiya. Though committed to their profession and the job at hand, what strikes the viewer most about their friendship is their respect and concern for each other. While Ritwick delivers a brilliant and very realistic portrayal as a modern man of letters, Srabanti impresses as an intelligent and fearless young woman, who is grounded and has her heart in the right place.
Rwitobroto Mukherjee, Shantilal Mukherjee, Neel Mukherjee, Bidipta Chakraborty and Rajnandini Paul appear in other pivotal roles in Rabindra Kabya Rahasya, which releases in theatres on June 20.
