Team Professor Sengupta got together for the premiere of the KLIKK series recently. Joy Sengupta, Dipanwita Rakshit, Joyjit Banerjee, Jeet Sundor and Anuja Roy star in Professor Sengupta, which follows Dr. Anirban Sengupta, a psychology professor, who lives alone in a quiet house nestled in the hills. Occasionally, Tinni, a little girl, visits her “Ani Uncle.” Anirban adores her, making dolls and giving her chocolates. Their tranquil life takes a dark turn when officer-in-charge Rajat arrives, investigating a body found on a jungle road. Initially, it seems like an accident, but the post-mortem report reveals it to be a murder.

The investigation leads Rajat to Anirban’s house as the victim was someone Anirban knew well — he was not just an acquaintance, but his former student. As the enquiry progresses, Rajat learns about Tinni. Visiting her home, he is stunned when Tinni reveals she saw a severed ear in Ani Uncle’s refrigerator. Rajat’s suspicions grow stronger.

“The premiere received an overwhelmingly positive response. Reuniting with colleagues after a long hiatus made it all the more special. We watched the premiere together at SRFTI, and it brought back vivid memories, especially of our intense, fast-paced shoot spread across the contrasting terrains of North and South Bengal. The locations were stunning yet remote, which made them both cinematically rich and personally enriching. Those isolated settings gave us the space to truly connect with each other and with nature at its rawest, most untouched form. Portraying Professor Sengupta was an intense challenge. He’s a complex, layered individual — someone isolated from society, driven by a dark obsession, teetering on the edge of psychosis. It’s not often you get to play a character with such a disturbing yet fascinating arc. I believe director Rajdeep Ghosh has woven the narrative with precision and depth. It’s not your usual fare — this one is intriguing, unsettling, and steeped in psychologically grim shadows,” said Joy Sengupta.

“This premiere was very special for me. My parents were happy to see my performance. Watching the series on the big screen, surrounded by the very people I worked with — many of whom I’ve admired on TV and OTT platforms — was a thrilling moment. To now share the screen with them is something I’ll always cherish. I had the opportunity to learn a lot from senior actors like Joy Sengupta and Joyjit Banerjee. I bonded very well with Jeet Sundar, too,” said Dipanwita Rakshit.

“For me, this project was a departure from anything I’ve done before. I had never directed a narrative centred on a psychopathic character. It was fascinating to enter the mind of someone with such extreme inclinations. I had the opportunity to work with a supremely talented cast who brought this dark, layered canvas to life with intensity and nuance. Viewers can expect a gritty, gripping, and psychologically intense series that dives deep into the complex psychographics of a truly fascinating mind,” said director Rajdeep Ghosh.

“There’s one particular scene in the woods where I discover a blood sample and the murder weapon. Interestingly, during that shoot, a leech had latched onto my hand and started sucking blood — but I didn’t even notice it while performing. Later, a local driver helped remove it. Audiences are in for a treat — this series offers a unique blend of a gripping story led by a cop character with a wacky sense of humour. The audience will love the witty punchlines. It’s dark, edgy, and thoroughly entertaining,” said Joyjit Banerjee.

“My friends and family are absolutely thrilled that I’m part of this project. Working with such a talented and warm team has been a beautiful experience. The twist in the tale has been applauded by everyone. My character Tushu goes through a radical and unexpectedly shocking change in the journey,” said Anuja Roy.

“What truly drew me to this story is its outdoor essence. Personally, I’m not a fan of indoor shoots — there’s something magical about the natural world. Be it jungles, mountains, or riversides, I believe they add life to storytelling. That’s why this series was shot across vibrant locations in Calcutta. We explored the serene beauty of North Bengal. We travelled a lot, and every frame reflects that journey. This psychological thriller stands as a benchmark of its new storytelling style. With stellar performances, striking cinematography, and an emotionally rich musical treatment, it’s an experience the audience won’t forget,” added Rajdeep Ghosh.
