Apple TV+ show Severance, which has been renewed for a third season, may have bigger plans. The show’s executive producer, Ben Stiller, has said that he can envision a video game adaptation.
Stiller and Severance star Adam Scott spoke with Variety. The pair was asked about expanding the show's universe. Stiller said he has two spin-off ideas already and has also mentioned it would “be great to have a Severance video game”. Scott added: “I think it lends itself to one.”
Set in a fictional town, Severance focuses on the mysterious Lumon Industries and their questionable practice of “severing” employees, that is, creating a split personality where neither has any memories of what the other has been up to. The “innies” and “outies” theory has had great success.
In the interview, the duo didn’t elaborate on plans for the show, but they are convinced that Severance can support spin-off projects.
Stiller even teased two Severance spin-off show ideas, but admitted that discussions about such projects “are nascent”. Merchandising has also not been ruled out: At some point, they want to make merchandise like Lumon keyboards, as long as it feels “bespoke and specific to the show”.
