Did you know that Ajay Jadeja didn't get a chance to bat, bowl or field on his ODI debut in a World Cup game or that Harilal Shah was the first batsman to score a duck in World Cup history? If such fun trivia about cricket interest you, The Harper Collins Book of World Cup Trivia by Suvam Pal can be your perfect companion.

"I had read many books on the cricket World Cup and was disappointed to find the same old information in all of them. So, I thought why not write a detailed book right from the 1975 to 2011 World Cup," said the author, whose earlier books are Sachin: 501 Things You Didn't Know about the Master and The Ultimate Olympic Quiz Book.

The book is divided into years starting from 1975; each year has interesting snippets from that World Cup.

Suvam is now busy researching for a soon-to-be-launched cricket show on Epic channel. "It will be hosted by Naseeruddin Shah," said the author, who didn't see a single cricket match since the 2011 World Cup final to the beginning of the last World Cup as he felt he had had an overdose of cricket.

The book launch also included a quiz on cricket.

Book exhibition

Sector V employees were treated to a two-day exhibition held by Oxford Bookstore and Infinity Group at Infinity Benchmark last month.

There was a strong selection of popular fiction and non-fiction, both Indian and international, along with illustrated books covering a vast range of topics such as design, culture, computers, cars, music, nature, photography, art and fashion. Much emphasis was given to promoting Bengali literature.

"I was very happy when I got to know that a book exhibition was taking place right here in my office building. If only there was a permanent book stall or a library nearby, I would be very happy," said Barnali Gupta, a HR professional who was excitedly browsing books from one table to another. She bought books worth Rs 1,500, including the Bhagavad Gita and Nehru and Bose: Parallel Lives by Rudrangshu Mukherjee.

The bestsellers? Nonte-Phonte and Bantul the Great by Narayan Debnath and Malgudi Days by R.K. Narayan.
