Nagaon, Nov. 10: Home side 107 Territorial Army lifted the 9th CEM Cup Football Tournament trophy, defeating Borok Football Academy, Agartala, 3-0 at NL Daolagupu sports Complex in Haflong today.
Territorial Army dominated the proceedings throughout and led by a solitary goal in the first half.
Territorial Army striker Sunil Rai gave a beautiful pass to right winger Rathin Thapa whose shot was brilliantly saved by Borok goalkeeper Budha Debbarma in the fourth minute.
Goalkeeper Debbarma saved another of striker Rai’s individual attempt in the seventh minute.
In the 15th minute, Borok right winger Suman Jamatia’s powerful angular shot brushed past the bar out of play.
Left winger Rupown Rai’s shot from the left flank, off a Sunil Rai pass, fetched the first goal of the match in the 18th minute.
Sunil Rai finally found the net through a free kick for the second goal in the 82nd minute. Territorial Army midfielder Joshan Rai’s shot from inside the D-box brought the third goal just two minutes later to entertain the 10,000-strong crowd.
The tournament was organised by Dima Hasao Sports Association.
Karate meet: Kamrup Metro and Kamrup Rural karatekas shared the honours on the third day of the 27th all-Assam inter-district karate-do championship organised under the banner of All Style Karadedo Association, Assam at Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phookan Indoor Stadium here.
