River Rine block Pace

Guwahati, Feb. 18: Pace Cricket Club went down to River Rine Club by 11 runs in a crunch match at Nehru Stadium here today to lose a final berth in the 4th Dhireswar Kalita Bud Twenty20 Challenge Cricket Tournament.

Navajyoti Club will meet Bud Cricket Club for the title on Sunday. Pace were in contention for a final berth had they won the match with a net run rate of more than 1.5 runs per over.

River Rine elected to bat first and were restricted to a modest total of 119 for seven. Pace lost all their wickets, scoring 108 with five balls to spare. Reduced to 61 for five, middle order batsmen Amit Boro (38) and wicketkeeper-batsman Naushad Ali (34) shared a 51-run stand for the sixth wicket.

Khanin Saikia (18) was the only other batsman to score in double figures. Mahmood Ali and Deepjyoti Debnath of Pace took two wickets each.

Pace suffered early setbacks, as Amit Boro struck for a double blow to claim openers Amjad Ali (0) and Jitumoni Baishya (3) with the scoreboard reading only 16. Pace continued to lose wickets at regular intervals till the end.

Anup Ghosh (21), Sajid Khan (19) and Mahmood Ali (13) were the Pace batsmen to score in double digits. Boro took two for 14 to be named Man of the match. Montu Das, Mahmadul Hussain and Raj Hussain took two each.

In another match, City Cricket Coaching Centre (CCCC) humbled Santipur Athletic Club by seven wickets. Santipur were restricted to 95 for six. CCCC batsmen achieved the target losing three wickets in 18.5 overs.

Rahul Hazarika topscored for CCCC with 41 runs to be named Man of the Match.
