Two kids are beating the lockdown boredom by creating a buzz on social media with their rendition of a popular Assamese love song. The wow factor is that they are singing to the beat of a makeshift drum kit.

In the video posted on Facebook, a girl sings Ei hahi bhaal laage while a boy performs on a makeshift drum kit made up of cardboard boxes, packaging material, banana tree trunks, bamboo and a metal tray.

The video clip starts with the girl saying, “Namaskar, we will pass time by singing”. She then begins to sing the song performed by singer and former All India Radio artiste Nasreen Halim of Dibrugarh and written by Hemanta Dutta.

The song Ei hahi bhaal lage, kiyo jaanu bhaal lage (I like this smile but I do not know why I like it) professes one’s love for an unknown entity. It ponders upon why one is singing and for whom — “Ei morom kaar baabe? (Who is this love for?),” it asks — but goes on to say that it gladdens the heart to be able to sing.

The heartwarming performance by the children has been shared by 13,000-plus people and liked by 14,000 people. A lot of people have praised them for their creativity.

Another rendition doing the rounds on social media is by the Nandy sisters Antara and Ankita on the immortal Assamese numbers Phul phulise boxontat and Moina kun bidhataai hajile on the occasion of Rongali Bihu. It has crossed 34,000 views on Youtube in three days.

The duo presented a balcony Bihu concert on the first day of the Assamese New Year on the YouTube channel, Antara Nandy. Playing ukuleles and draped in blue-and-black traditional mekhala chadors, Antara and Ankita performed on the balcony of a home.

Antara tweeted on her twitter handle @AntaraNandy,

“Bihu is a spirit — We can stay home and yet enjoy Bihu by spreading positivity in our on way — here’s ours!

Complementing them for their performance, Assam health and finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: “After a hectic day, it is refreshing to hear this Soulful Bihu from Antara and Ankita Nandi — Phul Phulise Boxontot Moina Kun Bidhataai Nandy Sisters Bihu Balco...” while sharing the link of their performance in YouTube.
