Over the past one week since the lockdown came into force in Guwahati, there have been no reports of major road accidents except just one fatal case where a young journalist lost her life.

On Monday night, a Guwahati-based journalist, Dimpi Kashyap, crashed her scooter in the Sundarpur area while she was returning from work. Her pillion rider, a colleague from the same office, Arup Morang, is also in a serious condition and has been hospitalised.

The police believe Dimpi was speeding and lost control. She bumped into a lamppost on the divider. They were taken to hospital immediately but Dimpi died of her injuries.

A source said since March 24, Guwahati traffic police did not receive any report of accidents that were fatal or were serious in any manner. On an average, there are at least 20 accidents here every day.
