Panel okays land plan

The Land Advisory Committee approved 1,100 proposals on Monday for allotment of plots to landless families in the Kamrup metropolitan district area. Guwahati MP Kirip Chaliha presided over the committee meeting held at the deputy commissioner?s office.

Vet meet

Assam veterinary and hills area development minister G.C. Langthasa inaugurated the two-day all-India conference on zoo veterinarians on Monday. The central zoo authorities organised the conference for the first time in the city.


The 94th birth anniversary of freedom fighter and Padmashri recipient Satish Chandra Kakati was observed at a function held on Sunday. A book on Kakati?s life and activities was also released on the occasion.

New party

The Scheduled Castes people of Assam, under the banner of Anususit Jati Mahasabha, Assam, have decided to float a new political party by the end of December to fight for their rights. A state-level conference will be held on December 18 to discuss the formation of the party.

Commerce talk

The 12th annual general meeting of the Federation of Industries and Commerce of North Eastern Region will be held on Friday. The meeting will be followed by an interaction session on the theme, Economic Development of North Eastern Region through Industrialisation.


The Bharat Jana Vigyan Jatha conducted a workshop on the improper use of drugs on Sunday. The aim was to create awareness regarding the adverse impact of using drugs indiscriminately.

NGO demand

Save Guwahati Build Guwahati, a local NGO, met the members of the Peoples? Consultative Group on Monday. The NGO requested the group to demand constitutional safeguards from the Centre for the indigenous people of the state.


The Food and Nutrition Board, Guwahati, recently conducted a weeklong training course on fruits and vegetable preservation and nutrition at Tetelia.
