The Kamrup (metro) district administration on Thursday requisitioned four buildings, including a hotel and three community units, for being upgraded as quarantine shelters for health officials in Guwahati.

A notification issued by the administration said the move was a part of preventive measures initiated to contain the outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the district.

A source said these buildings would be developed as quarantine shelters for the health officials who are working on the frontline, in hospitals and quarantine centres, to fight against Covid-19.

The buildings have been requisitioned under the Assam Covid-19 Regulation, 2020, and Sections 65 (I) A and 66 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.

The requisitioned buildings — Hotel Vishwaratna (Athgaon), Haryana Bhawan (Bharalumukh), Haryana Bhawan Guesthouse (Bharalumukh) and Terapanth Bhawan (Fancy Bazar) — will be supervised by eight lot mandals (revenue land administration staff).

The management of the buildings made all the vacant rooms available to the district administration on Thursday. The government will pay rent for these buildings after the health and family welfare department releases funds. The building managements will also provide cooks, helpers and other staff to the administration.

The government has taken the step as health sector workers fighting Covid-19 are required to be quarantined for 14 days after seven-day service.

Hotel Vivanta by Taj has voluntarily given rooms to the state health department for quarantining frontline medical workers like doctors and nurses.
