Guwahati, Jan. 7: AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal today said Dispur's reported move to amend Clause VI of the Assam Accord, in consultation with AASU, was not enough to safeguard the constitutional rights of the indigenous people. However, AASU leader Lurinjyoti Gogoi said there was no talk of amendment.

Silchar: Nonigopal Singha, 55, driver of former Assam minister Gautam Roy allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Hailakandi on Saturday. He is survived by his wife, four daughters and a son.

Farmers' benefit
Guwahati, Jan. 7: Assam minister or food, civil supplies and consumer affairs Rihon Daimari has directed the Food Corporation of India, National Cooperative Consumers' Federation and the Assam State Agriculture Marketing Board (ASAMB) to procure local produce from farmers at government rates and distribute the same to consumers through PDS. The department has given a loan of Rs 4 crore to the ASAMB for the procurement process.

Guwahati: A tripartite meeting with All Bodo Students' Union will be held here on Monday to discuss issues, including demand for a separate Bodoland state. The meeting will be chaired by joint secretary (Northeast) of Union home ministry Satyendra Garg.
