Ranchi: A 65-year-old milkman Saudagar Singh was crushed to death by a speeding tractor at Charku Chowk under BIT Mesra police outpost on Monday morning, leading angry local residents and family members of the deceased to block the road for half an hour from 8am.

Police have seized the killer vehicle, but driver Anil Mahato fled the spot soon after the incident.

The body of the deceased, a resident of Rudia village, has been sent to RIMS for post-mortem.

Local residents alleged that the driver didn't have a proper licence and the victim was riding his moped along the right side of the road when he was run over by the tractor.

"I knew the deceased who used to supply milk at our residence too. Right now there is no information about the driver. An FIR is likely to be lodged against the accused by the evening. We want the family of the victim to perform the last rites first," he said, adding that the police will record the statements of eye-witnesses.
